Treeing Walker Coonhounds
The Treeing Walker Coonhound is a fast, athletic scent hound originally bred in the United States for tracking and treeing raccoons. Known for its keen nose, endurance, and distinctive baying voice, it can follow a scent trail over long distances and difficult terrain with impressive accuracy.
In hunting, this breed excels at “treeing” game—once it tracks an animal like a raccoon, it will chase it up a tree and then remain at the base, barking loudly to alert the hunter. Treeing Walkers are prized for their speed, determination, and independence, making them highly effective both alone and in packs. Their strong tracking instincts and stamina also make them suitable for hunting other game such as foxes and deer.
I spent a long time trying to find a Treeing Walker and I managed to find one from a leopard pack.
What captivated me was the grit, the perserverance in finding pray and specifically the personality toward the owner – they are excellent companions.
