B. Man Tracking

Similar to blood tracking or hounds chasing an animal, the biggest problem is to keep the dog motivated. Normally hounds intend to hunt, and therefore you use that for tracking. We would like to have the hounds, man focused and not animal focused.

Having the correct breed and the correct blood lines in the bread is crucial. Other differences are man tracking does not come naturally, the owner needs to expose and train the dog at least once a month after my training is completed. It is crucial to have a reprimanding process in place (this will be discussed in the handover course). After completing training with the trainer, the handler normally would take 6 months to be confident enough to do a real track. Better quality hound is required for man tracking with a better nose, better tracking ability, more drive, more willingness to work on a leash and the willingness to find humans as the reward, man tracking hounds combine well with drones / helicopters as the hound gives direction. There is nothing you can do to outsmart a good hound. Some dogs can track through people, sand, grass, water at night.
